The Florida Lottery reports that the winner of a massive Mega Millions jackpot contacted officials and stepped forward to claim the prize.
Officials say Shane Missler, 20, of Port Richey, claimed the jackpot of more than $450 million from the Mega Millions drawing held Friday, January 5.
According to the Florida Lottery, Missler chose to receive his winnings in a one-time, lump-sum payment in the amount of a bit more than $281 million.
When asked what he plans to do with the money, Lottery officials say Shane replied, "I'm only 20, but I hope to use it to pursue a variety of passions, help my family and do some good for humanity."
Officials say Missler described himself as a believer in the power of a positive mindset.
After realizing he had won, Missler said the first call he made was to his brother. Then, he shared the news with his father over coffee the next morning.
Missler also said, at a news conference he attended with both his father and a newly-retained attorney, that winning had given him "a crash course" in financial management, and he felt fortunate to have both the wealth and his support system with him.
