Florida's Constitution Revision Commission is considering a victim rights amendment.
Commission member Tim Cerio says the amendment would guarantee the rights of victims and their families to be involved in the legal process.
"The right to be present at any court proceeding related to their case, the right to speak at the perpetrator's plea hearing or sentencing, and the right to know if the person who victimized them is about to be released from prison," he said.
20 years ago, Florida was considered a national model for victim's rights... but times have changed and the laws have not.
Cerio says he is hoping the Constitution Revision Commission will approve the amendment next month so it can appear on the ballot in November.
