Almost 5 billion dollars.
That's the cost so far of the private insurance claims filed in Florida because of Hurricane Irma.
State Insurance Commissioner David Altmaier says there have been 748 thousand claims and they add up to 4-point-9 billion bucks.
"Those are both numbers that we expect to increase over the next several weeks as the claims process continues to play out," he said.
Altmaier says they've been keeping an eye on the financial condition of all the private companies that have to pay that money and so far there don't appear to be any problems.
Irma struck the state almost a month ago.
Altmaier says the damage estimate will continue to rise for weeks... if not months... as more people submit claims to their insurance companies.
