Tiny Florida Landmark Survives Irma

The Ochopee Post Office, the smallest Post Office in the United States survived Hurricane Irma and is back open for business.

The post office, which is 61.3 square feet in area, has as its guardian Postal Clerk Shannon Mitchell.

Mitchell and many of her family members lost their homes due to Hurricane Irma.

Despite her personal loss Mitchell joins Postal Service employees throughout Florida who are working to reconnect customers with their mail.

Ochopee has one 131 mile mail route that serves over 900 residents.

The mail route covers deliveries in three counties, Monroe, Dade and Collier and includes delivery on the Miccosukee Indian Reservation.
