A Hillsborough County Sheriff's Deputy was arrested for driving under the influence, after wrecking his car on Disney property, according to a release from the Florida Highway Patrol.
Troopers say they were called to Disney Springs Tuesday night, with the arrest being made Wednesday.According to incident accounts, the deputy, identified as Timothy Michael Craig, was found inside a vehicle that had crashed three-quarters of the way through a pedestrian bridge.Investigators say it appears the vehicle hit a stop sign, then bounced off several pillars at the crosswalk bridge before coming to rest.Authorities said a witness to the episode removed the keys from the car, a Toyota Tundra.
Troopers said they found two open bottles of Fireball whiskey between the driver's seat and center console of the vehicle.Accounts indicate that troopers attempted to question Craig, but say he refused to answer and also refused to take a field sobriety test.
Authorities say that Craig also appeared to fade in and out of consciousness, later saying that he did not remember anything.Officials say he was booked into the County Jail early Wednesday morning, and later posted bond.Authorities with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office say Craig has been suspended without pay.
Records indicate he has been with the Sheriff's Office since 1994.
