Florida driver busted driving on sidewalks to avoid rush hour traffic

Sarasota, FL - A Florida driver was issued a citation last week after they were caught driving on the sidewalk to avoid rush hour traffic.

According to the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office, the driver was issued the citation on Wednesday after they were caught using the sidewalk to avoid traffic congestion.

Officials with the sheriff's office received an e-mail from a concerned citizen on Tuesday containing dash cam footage of a dark sedan driving on the sidewalk during rush hour traffic on the 8000 block of Fruitville Road.

The following morning, a deputy dispatched to the location witnessed the driver committing the offense again.

In a Facebook post, deputies discouraged drivers from using sidewalks to avoid traffic, writing "we REALLY shouldn’t have to say this, but you are not supposed to drive a motor vehicle on the sidewalk. It’s illegal and extremely dangerous. Thank you to the concerned citizen for bringing this to our attention!”
