High Court Sides with Gov over Prosecutor, Death Penalty

Florida's Supreme Court has sided with Governor Rick Scott in a case involving the death penalty and a state attorney who had said she would no longer seek it in capital cases.

Rick Scott began transferring capital cases to an outside prosecutor after State Attorney Aramis Ayala of Orlando said she would no longer pursue the death penalty.

Ayala sued the governor, saying he exceeded his authority and interfered with her prosecutorial discretion.

But the high court has rejected her lawsuit, saying Ayala's arguments were... at best... a "misunderstanding of Florida law"
