Thousands Mourn Fallen Central Florida Officers

In Central Florida Thursday, fallen Kissimmee police officers Sgt. Sam Howard and Officer Matthew Baxter were honored during a joint funeral at First Baptist Orlando.

A crowd of literally thousands of people turned out to pay their respects as family and colleagues mourned the officers.

Pastor David Youth said it was an honor to be with the officer's family members.

"So, to the families, Sam's family and Matthew's, thank you for allowing us to be here with you; to stand with you," he said.

Sgt. Howard and Officer Baxter were fatally shot Friday night responding to a call.

Howard is survived by his wife and by a teenage daughter.

Baxter is survived by his wife and 4 young daughters.

After Thursday's service,  both men were buried at Woodlawn Memorial Park.

A suspect in the deaths of the officers was arrested and remains in custody.
