Mark Asay has been put to death by the state of Florida.
According to corrections officials, the execution was carried out by lethal injection at 6PM Eastern Time Thursday.
Asay was a white supremacist convicted in the 1987 shooting deaths of two people in Jacksonville.
Governor Rick Scott signed Asay's death warrant 19 months ago.
A last-minute appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court was turned back Thursday afternoon, clearing the way for the execution to go ahead.
Asay was spared last year when courts struck down portions of Florida's death penalty law.
That law has since been changed and this was the first execution under the new death penalty law.
It was also the first in the country using a new 3-drug cocktail for the lethal injection procedure.
