Despite what you may have heard or read over the past week, state officials insist there are no ticket quotas at the Florida Highway Patrol.
The commander of the Tallahassee troop told his officers they should write two tickets per hour, but Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles Director Terry Rhodes told the governor and cabinet that's not official policy... and it's not legal.
"I assure you that FHP leadership understands that no quotas may be issued within our troops and no performance metrics may be impacted by the quota," she said. "I have met with Colonel Spaulding and discussed FHP plan to ensure compliance with Florida law and with this directive."
Rhodes promised the cabinet that there are no ticket quotas… and she says there's no longer any doubt about that policy in the upper ranks of the highway patrol.
She also offered her personal commitment that quotas are not and will not tolerated in the highway patrol, and that was good enough for the governor and cabinet.
