In Tallahassee, supporters threw a birthday party for Medicare Monday.
It's been 52 years since President Lyndon Johnson signed on the bottom line and some Tallahassee seniors gathered at city hall to celebrate with cake.
Dave Jacobson with the Florida Alliance for Retired Americans says Medicare works.
"It has vastly improved the quality of life for millions of older Americans," he said, "And allowed retirees to spend our later years in comfort and security."
U.S. House Speaker Paul Ryan claims the system will collapse if there aren't major changes.
But Anderson says that's a myth perpetrated by people who want to make more money by forcing seniors into the private insurance market.
Two weeks from now, the Tallahassee seniors say they'll get together for another birthday party, for the 82nd anniversary of Social Security.
