Retailers Ready for Sales Tax Holiday

Florida businesses expect big crowds on the first weekend of August.

There's a sales tax holiday for back-to-school shopping August 4 through 6, and James Miller at the Florida Retail Federation says it's second only to "Black Friday" for sales.

"People spend about an average of $687 per family, which is a substantial amount of money," he said. "And this year we're very excited, because the technology component is back in. So, any technology up to $750 is tax free, and that's a big chunk of change to save for Florida families this year."

The tax holiday covers school supplies, clothing, shoes and high tech gear... including tablets, desktops, laptops and all the parts and pieces that make up a computer.

It does not include smart phones and videogame consoles.
