Man Struck By Semi On Turnpike Monday Ruled Suicide Attempt

The Florida Highway Patrol says a man tried to commit suicide along the Turnpike on Memorial Day.

Investigators say a 57-year old man jerked the wheel of his family's SUV while his wife was driving along the Turnpike around mile marker 105 near Palm Beach Gardens around 9:15 a.m. Monday morning.

That caused the vehicle to veer off the road and once it stopped the man got out and jumped into oncoming traffic. He was struck by a tractor trailer and taken to a trauma center with life-threatening injuries.

The man's 56-year old wife and two daughters, ages 15 and 23, suffered minor injuries. The truck driver was not injured.

An investigation is underway.
