WATCH: Gabby Petito's Father Talks About Search for Daughter

NORTH PORT -- The father of missing woman Gabby Petito says he remains focused on finding his daughter and getting her back safely.

A North Port police spokesman conducted an interview of Joseph Petito, who says he knows his daughter is in trouble. "It's not like she's sitting in a hotel... she's out there somewhere and she needs help."

The 22-year-old was on a cross-country drive with her fiance, 23-year-old Brian Laundrie. Her mother says the family last heard from Petito in late August. The family called in a missing person's report September 11th. On the advice of counsel, Laundrie is not talking to police or the Petito and Schmidt families.

Petito urged people who know the Laundrie family to nudge them to talk. "Call them... ask them 'what do you know, what's going on'... if your son knows anything, he should be telling."

North Port police say they've received more than one thousand tips through an FBI hotline, 1-800-CALL-FBI. (1-800-225-5324).

North Port residents plan to hold a candlelight vigil tonight (Friday) at 7 p.m. outside city hall.
