Vigil Held For 7-Year Old Boy Shot To Death While He Slept

A vigil was held Sunday night for a seven year old Riviera Beach boy who was shot and killed while sleeping in his bed.

Dexter Fergusson Junior's father expressed surprise at the support of the community members who showed up at Kelsey Park, but says that's no consolation for the loss of his son.

"We will never get my baby back. I can't rent a baby. I can't buy a baby. The life they took was precious."

Several shots were fired into the bedroom window where the child and his parents were at the time last Wednesday.

"Gun violence needs to stop, especially when it has to do with innocent children...innocent blood."

The child's mother, 28-year old Addiscia Ball, was injured in the shooting and released from the hospital the next day. She was emotional during the event, which was complete with members of the community holding candles and a balloon release.

CBS 12 News reports that investigators believe someone in the apartment was targeted. No arrests have been made.
