Sen. Scott Calls Out St Petersburg Policing Plan

WASHINGTON -- St. Petersburg's controversial move to forego hiring 25 new police officers... and use some of the money to hire unarmed social workers instead... has been called out by one of Florida's U.S. Senators on Twitter.

Senator Rick Scott calls it "a dangerous move", saying Floridians rely on police for safety and security.

Scott also tweeted a link to a Fox News article about the CALL program.

St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Kriseman says the move by Chief Anthony Holloway recognizes his call to "reimagine" the police department. Scott and Kriseman have clashed in the past, during Scott's time as governor, particularly in 2016, when he ordered the state Department of Environmental Protection to investigate the city's dumping of 200 million gallons of untreated sewage into Tampa Bay. Here's Scott's Twitter quote:

"This is a dangerous move towards the position of the “defund the police” mob. The citizens of Florida rely on our highly-trained, professional police forces for their safety and security. Our leaders shouldn’t bow to the liberal mob."
