Plastic Bag Bans Back in the Spotlight in Tallahassee

PLASTIC-ENVIRONMENT-WASTE

(Tallahassee, FL) -- There's an effort to allow Florida municipalities to ban plastic shopping bags and foam containers.

Current state law prohibits local governments from regulating single-use plastics and Polystyrene, but two Democratic state representatives have filed a bill that would allow cities and counties to decide the issue. A similar bill has been filed in the state Senate.

Meanwhile, another Senate bill seeks a ban on plastic bags and single-use straws statewide. The next legislative session begins in January.
