Federal Judge Won't Put On Hold Challenge To Felon Voter Rights Law

Woman Voter Entering Voting Polling Place for USA Government Election

A Tallahassee-based federal judge has turned down a request by the governor to put on hold a challenge to a state law that carries out a Constitutional amendment restoring voting rights to felons.

The new law affects non-violent offenders who have completed their sentences.

Ron DeSantis and Florida Secretary of State Laurel Lee this week asked U.S. District Judge Robert Hinkle to put the federal lawsuit on hold while the Florida Supreme Court considers a related case, but Hinkle denied the request.
