Former Central FL Teacher Accused of Threatening Her Old Schools

DAVENPORT -- A former teacher is accused of threatening schools where she used to work.

Federal prosecutors unsealed an indictment that could mean 30 years in prison for 65 year old Maria Lauro of Davenport. They say Lauro mailed letters with white powder to three different elementary schools in Polk and Lake counties, where she used to work. The schools called authorities, who determined the powder was harmless.

Lauro faces six counts of threatening communications and transmitting hoaxes. She was arrested Thursday by FBI special agents at her Davenport home. She has been released on what are called "restrictive bail conditions."
