TROOP SALUTE: North Miami Beach Native Serves Aboard U.S. Warship In Japan

Petty Officer 3rd Class Robert Jaime of North Miami Beach, joined the Navy to become a Navy diver, he now serves aboard the guided-missile cruiser USS Chancellorsville, patrolling one of the world’s busiest maritime regions as part of the leading-edge of U.S. 7th Fleet which is currently stationed in Japan.

“I work on SPY radar weapons systems,” said Jaime. “It’s my job to watch the overall tactical picture around us. It’s interesting to see all of the pieces put together on a global scale. It pushes me to learn even more about my job.”

Robert graduated in 2010 from Mast Academy, currently serves as a fire controlman (aegis) aboard the Yokosuka. The Japan-based ship is one of three cruisers deployed in the region.

Jaime credits success in the Navy to lessons learned in North Miami Beach. “My family taught me to stay motivated with everything I do,” said Jaime.

Approximately 300 men and women serve aboard the ship. Their jobs are highly specialized and keep each part of the cruiser running smoothly, according to Navy officials. They do everything from maintaining gas turbine engines and operating the highly sophisticated Aegis weapons system to driving the ship and operating small boats.

America is a maritime nation, which means that the nation’s prosperity is tied to the ability to operate freely on the world’s oceans.

“I serve to sacrifice my time,” said Jaime.
