A 60-year-old truck driver went to the local Post Office in the California town of Twentynine Palms last week to check on his mail. He found a package inside, marked "fragile," with a Florida return address. He brought the package back to his truck, where a friend was waiting. He asked his friend to open the package as they drove away. Inside was a live rattlesnake, hissing and ready to strike. Whoever sent the package put cotton balls inside to muffle the sound of the snake's rattle. The snake did not bite, but both men agree this is a case of attempted murder. The Postmaster General is investigating. The snake was handed over to Animal Control.
