An annual ceremony remembering a notable shipwreck is also honoring the singer who immortalized the crew that was lost at sea. This past Friday, November 10th, marked the 48th anniversary of the 1975 sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald in Lake Superior in which the entire crew was lost. During a ceremony at the Great Lakes Maritime Academy in Traverse City, Michigan, a bell was rung 31 times: 29 times for the crew members, one time for all lives lost at sea, and one time for the late Canadian singer Gordon Lightfoot. Lightfoot wrote and recorded "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" and the epic six-and-a-half-minute song became a major hit in the U.S. and Canada in the fall of 1976. Throughout the years, Lightfoot changed some of the lyrics during live performances to reflect new findings from the wreckage.
If you're looking up tonight you might have a chance to catch a peak at one of the most distant planets in our solar system. Thanks to November's New Moon and the fact that Uranus is in opposition, the ice giant should be visible overnight. Being nearly two billion miles from Earth, the seventh planet from the Sun will still require a telescope to view in detail.

The clogs will cost between 70 and 75 dollars and drop today. The companies are teaming up to offer Crocs based on the mascots Grimace, Hamburglar and Birdie, as well as a classic red and yellow with the McDonalds logo. Washington State University helped lead a study that compared marijuana to sleep aids like melatonin or benzo-diaze-pines. More than 80 percent of pot users say smoking joints helped them get better sleep. Sixty-percent got six to eight hours of sleep.
