The Food and Drug Administration has approved selectively-bred pigs for human consumption. Researchers at Washington State University used gene-editing technology to create five pigs with similar DNA. And they were made into German-style sausages. The goal of the test was to prove gene-edited animals could get FDA approval for consumption. Researchers say this technology does it faster and can create animals with more desirable traits for improved food production.
