A legendary rock and roll band is getting good vibrations from TV audiences. The two-hour special "A Grammy Salute to the Beach Boys" aired Sunday night on CBS, and "Billboard" says it was number-one in its time slot with over five-million viewers. It featured an all-star lineup performing Beach Boys songs, including Beck, John Legend, Brandi Carlisle and Michael McDonald, and included special appearances by Elton John, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Hanks and other stars. Billboard says it had the largest audience for a Grammy special since the Grammy Salute to Prince in 2020.
"The Super Mario Bros. Movie" continues to rake up cash at the box office. At North American theaters on Monday alone, the film earned over 20-million-dollars. This comes after "The Super Mario Bros. Movie" took first place in its debut, making more than 200-million-dollars over the Easter weekend.
A Florida man is facing charges after he was seen running down the road in his underwear. The Polk County Sheriff's Office says 23-year-old Zachery Brooks was fleeing a crash Monday night in Mulberry on Highway 640. He was driving a Nissan that hit a semi-truck. Deputies say Brooks got out of the car, and while running, was taking off his clothes until he was down to just his underwear. He was found by a deputy and his K9. Investigators say Brooks didn't have a valid license or insurance. He was charged with driving with a suspended or revoked license.
A hip-hop icon is donating his famous clock chain necklace to Harvard University. I speak, of course, of the legendary Flavor Flav, AKA the co-founder of Public Enemy. Flavor Flav gave the bejeweled timepiece he wears around his neck to Harvard last week when he was visiting the campus. He taught a class on the beginnings of hip-hop. Flav also talked about his addiction struggles.
There's a new most-followed woman on Twitter. Rihanna has over 108-point-two million followers, surpassing Katy Perry. Social Blade reports that her account is the fourth-most followed in the world. Her closest competitors are Justin Bieber, former President Barack Obama, and Elon Musk, who is the most followed person on the app with over 134-million followers.
A pair of signed, game-worn Michael Jordan sneakers are breaking the bank. Sotheby's announced that the shoes worn by MJ in the second half of Game 2 of the 1998 NBA Finals sold at auction for more than two-point-two million dollars.That's the highest price ever paid at auction for a pair of sneakers. In that game, Jordan led the Chicago Bulls with 37 points in a win over the Utah Jazz. Just days later, Jordan and the Bulls completed what is now referred to as the "Last Dance," capturing their sixth NBA championship.
