Rays Open Road Trip With Shutout Loss To Cubs

The Chicago Cubs (23-30) shut out the Tampa Bay Rays (39-17) 1-0 on Monday afternoon at Wrigley Field.

Marcus Stroman (5-4, 2.59) put together a dominant pitching performance for the Cubs. The only baserunner he allowed through six innings was when he hit Luke Raley to lead off the third inning. Wander Franco broke up the no-hit bid with a single to lead off the seventh - all told he allowed just three baserunners in nine shutout innings which saw him strike out eight.

The only offense of the game came in the fourth inning when Mike Tauchman drove in Seiya Suzuki with a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning. That was set up by Taylor Walls commiting a huge error that allowed Suzuki to get to second base to lead off the inning.

Taj Bradley (3-2, 3.60) was the tough-luck loser for the Rays - in five and two-third innings he allowed just one unearned run on three hits wihle striking out eight and walking one.

The Rays and Cubs meet in the middle game of the three game series on Tuesday night. Shane McClanahan is scheduled to start for the Rays, and face Kyle Hendircks for the Cubbies. First pitch is scheduled for 8:05 PM - pregame coverage begins with Ronnie & T-Kras hosting the Inside Pitch at 7:00 PM on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620.
