Florida Man Killed By His Rare Pet Bird

A 75-year Florida man was killed by a rare, exotic bird that is considered one of the most dangerous flightless birds in the world. Marvin Hajos bred rare birds on his farm and was attacked by a cassowary after he fell in his backyard.

Cassowaries are large flightless birds that are about six feet tall, weigh between 120 and 160 pounds and have four-inch long dagger-like claws. They are capable of running at a top speed of 30-miles-per-hour, can jump up to seven feet and are even adept swimmers.

Police received a 911 call around 10 a.m. from Hajos saying that he had fallen and needed help. As officers were responding to the scene, they received another call from somebody at the farm who reported that the cassowary was attacking Hajos. He was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police are saying that it was a tragic accident and have secured the exotic bird in a cage on the property.
