Secret Service Says Man Set Himself On Fire Near The White House

Secret Service Uniformed Division personnel secure the intercetion of 17th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue near the White House after a man reportedly tried to set himself on fire outside the presidential mansion

The North Lawn of the White House was locked down after a man set himself on fire. The Secret Service says the man was near the North Fence Line in "an electronic wheelchair-type scooter" when he lit his jacket on fire.

Uniformed Division Officers rushed over to the man and put out the flames. They administered first aid and rushed him to a nearby hospital where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries. They also found a suspicious package near the man and closed Pennsylvania Avenue to pedestrians while they canvassed the area.

President Donald Trump was at the White House meeting with the Fraternal Order of Police Executive Board but was never in any danger.

Officials have not identified the man or explained why he decided to set himself on fire.
