President Donald Trump condemned a series of suspected pipe bombs sent through the mail to several Democratic officials and CNN's bureau in New York City on Wednesday saying "threats of political violence of any kind have no place" in the U.S.
During a bill signing event at the White House Wednesday afternoon, Trump told reporters that "this egregious conduct is abhorrent" while referring to the series of suspicious packages sent to several former and current Democratic officials and CNN.
"I just want to tell you that in these times we have to unify, we have to come together and send one very clear, strong, unmistakable message that acts or threats of political violence of any kind have no place in the United States of America," he said.
The president told reporters that the "full weight of our government" is currently investigating who might have sent the packages and promised that federal agents will "bring those responsible for these despicable acts to justice."
In a tweet issued earlier on Wednesday, Trump quote-tweeted Vice President Mike Pence, saying he agreed wholeheartedly.
"These cowardly actions are despicable & have no place in this Country," Pence wrote on Twitter.
FBI officials say the agency is conducting an intense investigation into who sent the suspicious packages to Democratic officials and CNN's bureau in New York City. At least five devices have been discovered so far. A law enforcement official said the devices were similar to one found on Monday at the home of billionaire investor and Democratic donor George Soros.
None of the devices have exploded or harmed anyone.
